Fr. John Bosco Musinguzi joins Holy Family as its new Associate Pastor. Fr. Bosco, as he prefers to be called, hails from Uganda. In elementary school, he felt the call to priesthood and, while in high school, the call to be a Missionary. His journey to the priesthood began after graduating from college. He has a diploma in Building and Civil Engineering then studied Philosophy in Tanzania and Theology in a Jesuit College in Nairobi, Kenya.
He was ordained on July 25, 2000. He spent six years working in post-genocide Rwanda before coming to the Los Angeles Archdiocese in June 2006. He was Associate Pastor at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Claremont while taking his Masters Degree in Public Administration at Cal Poly Pomona University. He was later transferred to Providence Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills as Chaplain.
When asked what he likes most about being a priest, Fr. Bosco’s list includes being available to serve all, to celebrate the Holy Eucharist, to encourage sacramental life in Christians, and to support love and unity in families. He likes to work with the youth, the sick, and the elderly and to do holy pilgrimages to deepen his spiritual/prayer life. He also likes to be engaged in social justice issues—especially in the fight against poverty and to promote the human rights of orphans and poor children. He adds, “I like the different cultures and enjoy fraternity with my brother priests. All these keep me spiritually awake and make me happy in my priestly life.”
He doesn’t like idleness because “it brings no opportunity to grow spiritually, morally, socially and to know how to be responsible.”
Fr. Bosco is excited to be part of Holy Family and is looking forward to be pastorally engaged, interactive, friendly and to learn the different languages parishioners of Holy Family speak. “This is to help me to understand the needs of the community and individuals in order to provide appropriate presence, support, and spiritual guidance to bring hope, new life, and the healing love of Jesus Christ,” he adds.
He says, “I am happy and blessed to join Holy Family Parish with love and faith, as your fellow Christian-pilgrim and as your humble servant. Let’s be friends right away in the light of the Gospel that we both help each other to grow in faith, love, and justice that peace and joy may be in abundance in our lives for the glory of God.”
In his free time, Fr. Bosco likes soccer, travelling, and listening to Church music. Make sure to give Fr. Bosco a warm Holy Family welcome.
