Funerals

In the event of a loved one passing, Holy Family Parish recommends that the family of the deceased visit a mortuary before making any funeral arrangements with the church. The mortuary will then contact the parish and arrange for services.

Funeral Stipend: $550.00 for registered parishioners and $750 for non-registered parishioners. The stipend may be paid through the mortuary.

For Liturgical Music, please contact Dr. Christian Marcoe, DMA, Director/Organist, at (818) 421-8858, once the Funeral Mass has been confirmed.

The Bereavement Committee will be available to you as you prepare the Funeral Mass. The committee will contact you once final arrangements have been made.

Flowers may be delivered directly to the church at 220 East Elk Ave., Glendale, CA 91205, one hour before services are to begin. The parish office cannot sign or be responsible for flowers.

Liturgical Music for Masses of Christian Burial

Funerals are often difficult situations in which some family members and friends, overburdened with grief, unchurched, are unable to enter into the liturgy. Music, an essential part of the Mass, is a wonderful tool giving voice to the families expression of love for their departed and is an unsurpassable tool of consolation and solace to all those attending the Funeral Mass.

Our parish has a musician / singer engaged specifically to fulfill this need. Some families will need help in selecting appropriate sacred music for the Funeral Mass, our musician, Dr. Marcoe, has the expertise to guide each family as they strive to pick just the right music to express their love, grief, and faith in life after death.

It is very important to note that in accordance with liturgical guidelines no recorded music will be allowed during the Mass.

Each family is encouraged to pick three sacred songs and a psalm appropriate to the liturgy. Especially recommended are songs found in our church music book. These songs then would be added to the liturgical music already prescribed.

Here is an example of a Funeral Mass with its music components:
  • Prelude - Organ / Chant / Solo
  • Greeting at the Door of the Church - Latin or English Chant
  • Processional - Hymn (Amazing Grace, Chant, Jesus Lead the Way)
  • Psalm - sung by Cantor (Psalm 23, The Lord is my Shepherd)
  • Gospel Acclamation - Cantor and congregation
  • Offertory - Hymn or Solo (Ave Maria, I heard the voice of Jesus)
  • Holy, Acclamation, Amen, Lamb of God - Sung in Latin, English, or Spanish
  • Communion - Hymn or Solo (I know that my Redeemer Lives)
  • Commendation -  Chant (Saints of God)
  • Recessional - Chant or Hymn (In Paradisum, May the Angels lead you into Paradise)

YEAR FOR PRIESTS

Please Pray for Priests

Dear Lord,
we pray that the Blessed Mother
wrap her mantle around your priests
and through her intercession
strengthen them for their ministry.

We pray that Mary will guide your priests
to follow her own words,
"Do whatever He tells you" (Jn 2:5).

May your priests have the heart of St. Joseph,
Mary’s most chaste spouse.

May the Blessed Mother’s own pierced heart
inspire them to embrace
all who suffer at the foot of the cross.

May your priests be holy,
filled with the fire of your love
seeking nothing but your greater glory
and the salvation of souls.
Amen.
Saint John Vianney, pray for us.
